As revealed in a press release published on 6 February 2020, the Naval Air Warfare Centre, which is a California-based research group for the U.S. Navy has invested as much as $9.5 million into a blockchain-based startup called Simba Chain for creating a secure messaging platform.
‘Excited to Be One of the First Blockchain Solutions Providers to the U.S. Military’
The research group hired Simba chain in order to install a safe communication and transaction route based on blockchain. The project was to be done for the Department of Defence (DoD). The amount was handed over to Simba Chain as a part of a Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) Phase 3 Agreement which spans a period of five years.
The CEO of the blockchain startup, Joel Neidig, has said that his company is excited to be one of the first blockchain services providers to the U.S. military. He called the deal a win for Simba Chain, its other partners as well as for DoD. He further said that the company plans to deliver a ‘bulletproof’ program which shall provide solutions to all the problems.
It is not the first time that Simba Chain has provided solutions to the U.S. military. Earlier, the company had built a blockchain-based supply chain service for the U.S. Air Force. This was in August 2019 and in half a year the company is ready to work again.
According to the contract, Simba Chain is responsible for building and testing the blockchain-based communication system. This well suits the startup since built on the Microsoft Azure cloud platform, its area of specialty includes safe data exchange during land and water operations.
Applications like these are cementing blockchain as an integral part of contemporary world infrastructure making the technology indispensable.
