A blockchain-backed healthcare data storing platform has been developed by the United Arab Emirates’ Ministry of Health and Prevention (MoHAP) along with the Ministry of Presidential Affairs as announced on 2 February. The healthcare platform aims to not only improve the operations of the two ministries involved but also that of the Dubai Healthcare City and other healthcare services that form the developing team of the platform.
Detailing the Platform
The platform can be used to enquire about health-related services ranging from the most viable health facilities to accredited technical or medical staff. Moreover, the system will provide users insight into the supply chains of medicines they use.
The platform also intends on introducing Artificial Intelligence (AI) into making the health care system more efficient. Dr. Amin Hussein Al Amiri, Assistant Undersecretary of the Ministry of Health and Prevention’s Public Health Policy and Licenses stated that the AI-backed projects would help better the services of the healthcare system by providing access to enhanced medical solutions that maintain the standards of the UAE Centennial 2071 and its AI strategy.
Dr. Lubna Al Shaali, Director of the Public Health Policy Department, expressed her approval stating that the blockchain platform would help in securing and stabilizing a decentralized, encrypted and unalterable database that provides for the verification of the validity of data and its authenticity.
Blockchain in UAE
Blockchain has maintained a solid progressive front in UAE. About 80% of functioning government bodies have adopted UAE in one way or the other. The Department of Economic Development in Dubai recently announced the plans of a blockchain-backed business registry platform to transform the business sector in the country. UAE’s Ministry of Community Development also recently unveiled the “Social Blockathon” Competition. The competition aims at developing software with the use of blockchain technology to create programs for education and social purposes.
